Steering Committee Charge
AUTHORITY AND PURPOSE
The Chief Justice of the Colorado Supreme Court hereby establishes the Workplace Culture Initiative (WCI) Steering Committee. This Committee is appointed as an advisory body to make recommendations to the Supreme Court regarding key initiatives intended to enhance workplace culture across the Judicial Department.
The Committee will do this work with an eye toward promoting an inclusive, supportive, and skilled work environment. We know that positively impacting workplace culture benefits all our employees and judicial officers and directly influences the quality of justice and service we provide to our communities.
CHARGE
The WCI Steering Committee is charged with:
1. MVV Initiative: Work with the Office of Culture and Leadership staff, including its Manager of Culture, and with the Communications Director to implement the branch’s new Mission, Vision, and Values across the state.
2. Wellbeing: Review recommendations from the Statewide Wellbeing Committees and provide input. The Steering Committee shall forward final recommendations to the Supreme Court for review. The WCI Steering Committee shall recommend that the Court adopt, reject, or modify all or part of any such recommendations.
3. Pilot Chief Judge Evaluation: Develop, with input from the Chief Judges’ Council and any other impacted stakeholders it deems appropriate, an evaluation process for chief judges to provide meaningful feedback on the chief’s leadership and operations in the districts. Once a pilot is developed, the Steering Committee shall forward the proposal to the Supreme Court for its consideration.
4. Childcare Initiative: Review recommendations from the Childcare Initiative and provide input.
5. Workplace Culture: Develop and implement strategies to improve workplace culture across the Judicial Department through relationship-building, review of leadership roles and responsibilities, governance structures, and opportunities for process improvements.
6. Statewide Training and Development: Review recommendations from the Statewide Training and Development Committee and provide input.
Membership
The WCI Steering Committee will consist of:
1. At least one Supreme Court Justice liaison
2. Two Court Executives or their deputies, if delegated
3. Two Chief Probation Officers or their deputies, if delegated
4. Two Clerks of Court
5. Two Supervisors (one court, one probation)
6. Two staff Employees (one court, one probation)
7. Four Chief Judges (including one from the Court of Appeals)
8. A Deputy Director of Human Resources
9. The Manager of Culture and Leadership
10. A division director from the Office of the State Court Administrator
11. An employee from each division of SCAO not otherwise represented
12. The State Court Administrator
Justice Hart and Laura Snyder chair the WCI Steering Committee, which includes representatives from metro and rural districts across Colorado. The Steering Committee provides feedback and direction to the Working Groups and reviews their recommendations; offers input and makes formal recommendations to the Supreme Court; and serves as a conduit for communication with district leadership across the state.
